“A man
went to visit his 90 year old grandfather in a secluded, rural area of the
state. After spending the night, his grandfather prepared breakfast for him
consisting of eggs and bacon. He noticed a film-like substance on his plate
and he questioned his grandfather....are these plates clean?
His grandfather replied.... those plates are as clean as cold water can get
them so go on and finish your meal.

That afternoon, while eating the hamburgers his grandfather made for lunch,
he noticed tiny specks around the edge of this plate, and a substance that
looked like dried egg yolks...so he asked again......are you sure these
  plates are clean?

Without looking up from his hamburger, the grandfather says.....I told you
before those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them, now don't ask me
  about it anymore!

Later that afternoon, he was on his way out to get dinner in a nearby town.
As he was leaving, Grandfather's dog started to growl and would not let him
pass.... Grandfather, your dog won't let me out.

Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching,
Grandfather shouted, COLDWATER, GET OUT OF THE WAY!”

Is it only
me or does this “joke” churn your stomach?! YUCK!!! I am mortified by the
very thought of a dog licking out my plate and I don’t CARE if a dog is a man’s
  best friend!

I grew up
with dogs and so I know that dogs are very loyal and can be fun especially at the
puppy stage. At one point we had seven dogs, including a Rottweiler. However,
in my culture there is a LIMIT to what a dog is allowed to do.

Dogs are
not allowed to sleep in the house…unless it is a Shih Tzu or a poodle or one
of those tiny, delicate dogs who could not last a night outside like the good
  old fashioned mongrel.

In fact
you are more likely to hear “Rover, a wha’ yuh a do in yah? Cum out a di
house!! Yuh too bright!!” at which point the dog will flee outside as quickly
  as possible.

The dog is
not allowed to go into the bed at all. Couch is off limits too. His meals are
served in his plate whether it is an old frying pan, pot or a dish bought at
the pet shop but he will not be eating out of crystal or any chinaware.

True, we
have come a long way as I now see folks putting their dogs in their cars and
taking them for a drive; a few are seen walking with the dogs under their
arms a-la Paris Hilton and many are seen walking their dogs around the
  neighborhood.

What really
annoys me though are the skinny behind, bleached out, tattooed young men with
sagging pants walking pitt bulls around as if they were poodles! The chains
are quite fragile and the dogs do not have on muzzles. As a matter of fact, it
is safe to say that the dogs are walking the guys as the dogs are clearly
much stronger and usually are dragging them along. But, they have to “show
off” that they have a pitt bull….right…moving along.

As much as
you have many die hearted dog lovers, I doubt that I will ever see a local
millionaire die and leave his wealth to a dog or dogs…not in Jamrock.

Anyway, for
those who have and love their dogs KUDOS! Yes, we can have a healthy
relationship with dogs as long as the lines are not crossed and the dog doesn’t
  bite out of malice!

Those pit bull terriers are common with 'chavs' in the UK. Chavs are working class youths who live on council estates or deprived areas. They all wear trainers, tracksuits, baseball caps, tops with hoods to conceal their identities and cheap jewellery known as bling. They all look the same! Many of them are sort of rough around the edges. The pit bull terriers are a chav accessory, often used for protection.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know Jamaican lads were also acquiring scary dogs.
Yes we are! You know we are famous copycats!
ReplyDeleteThere are some who are involved in illegal activities and so they have hordes of pit bulls guarding their properties to keep away the police!
Thanks for the visit! Come again soon! :-)
